Target Butt Assignment
Complete guide to target lane allocation in qualification rounds: understanding the two target dashboard modules, World Archery wave sequences (A-C-B-D), automated constraint-based club separation, and scoring integrity protections.
Target butt assignment is the process of allocating registered archers to specific target butts and shooting positions on the tournament shooting line. Archeris provides a comprehensive, dual-module target architecture supporting both Automated Constraint-Based Drawing and Interactive Kanban Drag-and-Drop Positioning.
1. Target Butt & Position Structure (A, B, C, D)
Each target butt on the field is identified by a sequential number (e.g., Target 1, Target 2, Target 3...). Under World Archery rules:
- 4 Archers per Target (Standard A, B, C, D): Archers A & C shoot on the first detail (Wave 1), while archers B & D shoot on the second detail (Wave 2). Detail order alternates every end.
- 2 Archers per Target (A & B): Common for small indoor ranges, finals fields, or special youth divisions.
- 3 Archers per Target (A, B, C): Common in 3-spot vertical indoor target layouts.
Left-Handed & Para Accommodations: Left-handed archers are conventionally placed in positions A or C so they face away from right-handed adjacent competitors, preventing back-to-back bumping on the shooting line. Para-archers in wheelchairs are best placed on lower target numbers near field entry ramps.
2. Automatic Assignment: Standard Draw vs. Field Draw
To run automatic target allocation for a qualification category:
- Navigate to Organizer Dashboard > Qualification > [Select Session] > Target Management.
- Select your competition category tab.
- Click the Auto-Assign (Undian Otomatis) button to open the draw method selector.
- Choose your preferred draw method:
- Standard Draw (Undian Standar - Pure Random): Shuffles all paid participants purely at random and fills target slots sequentially in the World Archery wave sequence: Slot A → Slot C → Slot B → Slot D across all active target butts.
- Field Draw (Undian Lapangan - Fair Club Separation): The official international tournament standard, utilizing a multi-pass constraint solver to prevent club teammates from occupying the same target butt.
- Click Apply Assignments (Terapkan Penempatan). The system distributes all confirmed athletes in seconds.
3. Constraint Solver Logic in Field Draw (Club & Wave Separation)
The Field Draw algorithm emulates World Archery and IANSEO target distribution rules:
- Roster Grouping & Priority Sorting: Participants are grouped by club/delegation. Clubs with the largest rosters are processed first to ensure optimal field dispersal.
- Target Butt Level Separation (10,000 pt penalty): The algorithm actively penalizes placing archers from the same club onto the same target butt, guaranteeing neutral peer-scoring calls.
- Wave Level Separation (8,000 pt penalty): If butt capacity forces two archers from the same club onto the same target, the system strictly separates them into opposite shooting waves (Wave 1: A/C vs. Wave 2: B/D) so they do not stand on the line simultaneously.
- Uniform Density Distribution: Target boards are filled evenly so no target is overloaded while others remain vacant.
4. Interactive Kanban Manual Assignment, Drag-Drop & Swapping
Organizers have granular manual control directly from the interactive qualification workspace:
- Unassigned Roster Sidebar: Displays all confirmed category participants grouped by club. Simply drag and drop any athlete card into an open target position (A, B, C, D).
- Instant Position Swapping: Dragging an athlete card directly onto another already occupied target slot automatically swaps the two competitors between targets in a single operation.
- Empty Slot Dropdown Search: Clicking on any empty target position opens an instant search popover allowing organizers to search, filter, and assign archers with a single click.
5. Live Scoring Auto-Locks & Smart Reset Protections
To ensure strict scoring integrity and prevent accidental data loss during live competitions:
- Automated Scoring Lock: As soon as qualification scoring begins and any score is recorded for a category (
ends_completed > 0), Auto-Assign, Reset, and bulk movements are completely locked by backend API security checks. - Smart Reset (Atur Ulang Bersyarat): When an organizer triggers Reset Assignments, the system only unseats archers who have not shot yet. Archers with existing scores are safely preserved in place.
- Multi-Category Session Protection: When multiple categories share one qualification session, Auto-Assign on Category B will automatically respect and preserve targets already assigned to Category A.
6. Mobile Scorekeeper Board Codes & Publishing Official Lists
After completing target assignments:
- Board Codes for Scorekeepers: Each target card displays its unique Board Code (e.g.,
001TGT) paired with a QR code, allowing on-field scorekeepers to log into the mobile scoring portal with one scan. - Print Scoresheets & Target Lists: Click Print Scoresheet to generate official printable PDF scoresheets and target matrices for technical meetings and field notice boards.
- Public Page Sync: Target assignments update in real time on the public tournament portal and athlete mobile apps.
