Shoot-Off Rules
Learn the rules for elimination tie-breaks, single-arrow shoot-offs, team shoot-offs, and Closest-to-Center (CTC) measurement procedures in Archeris.
When a head-to-head elimination match ends in a deadlock after the regulation number of sets or ends, the match winner is decided via a sudden-death tie-break known as a Shoot-Off (Satu Panah Penentuan).
1. When Does a Shoot-Off Occur?
A shoot-off is immediately triggered under the following conditions:
- Set System (Recurve / Barebow Individual): When the match score is tied at 5 - 5 after 5 sets.
- Set System (Recurve Team / Mixed Team): When the match score is tied at 4 - 4 after 4 sets.
- Cumulative System (Compound Individual): When the total cumulative score is equal after 5 ends (15 arrows).
- Cumulative System (Compound Team): When the total score is equal after 4 ends (24 arrows / 16 arrows for Mixed Team).
The shoot-off row activates automatically in the Archeris scoring interface as soon as the tie condition is detected — scorekeepers and organizers do not need to manually trigger anything.
2. Individual Shoot-Off Procedure
In individual matches, the tie-break proceeds as follows:
- Each archer shoots 1 single arrow on their assigned target face.
- The archer with the higher arrow value (e.g. 10 vs 9, or 9 vs 8) wins the match.
- If both archers shoot the exact same arrow value (e.g. both score 9, or both score 10):
- The winner is determined by measuring which arrow is Closest to the Center (CTC) of the target face.
If both arrows are at the exact same distance from center — which is extremely rare — a coin toss or re-shoot is conducted per the judge's ruling.
3. Team Shoot-Off Procedure
In team matches:
- Team (3 archers): Each team member shoots 1 arrow (3 arrows total per team).
- Mixed Team (2 archers): Each team member shoots 1 arrow (2 arrows total per team).
- The team with the highest cumulative shoot-off arrow total wins.
- If the total shoot-off scores are tied, the team whose single arrow is closest to the center wins the match. If those are equidistant, the second closest arrows are compared.
Team shoot-offs happen fast — all archers shoot simultaneously. Make sure each team member is at their designated position before the shoot-off command is given to avoid procedural errors.
4. Closest to Center (CTC) Determination
When arrow values are identical in a shoot-off:
- Judges inspect the target butt with calipers or a precise measuring ruler from the center pinhole of the X-ring to the nearest edge of each arrow shaft.
- In Archeris, when a scorekeeper or organizer enters tied shoot-off arrow scores, the UI prompts: "Select the archer whose arrow is Closest to Center (CTC) / Beri Tanda Panah Terdekat".
- Selecting the CTC toggle awards the match victory to that archer, and a
(CTC)badge is affixed to the match result.
In practice, CTC decisions happen quickly — judges simply look at which arrow shaft is physically closer to the pin hole at the center of the target face. The system only needs a yes/no selection from the organizer, not a measurement value.
5. Recording Shoot-Offs in Archeris
In the scoring interface (Organizer Dashboard or Mobile Scorekeeper):
- When regulation ends finish in a tie, a special S.O. (Shoot-Off) input row automatically activates.
- Input the arrow score for Archer A and Archer B (or team arrows).
- If scores are different, the system computes the winner automatically.
- If scores are identical, tap the CTC Winner radio toggle next to the archer verified by the judges.
- Click Save & Finalize Match. The winner is advanced to the next bracket round immediately.
Shoot-off results are permanent — once saved, the match cannot be reopened. Double-check the arrow scores and CTC selection before clicking finalize, especially in high-stakes semifinal and final matches.
